Krewe du Lapin Martele Travels to the Orient
Krewe du Lapin Martele represented Iowa, Louisiana by traveling around the globe for its second annual Ball held February 23rd at the KC Hall in Iowa, Louisiana. Iowa has a long history of honoring the rabbit industry and what it has contributed to the Krewe’s little hometown. Hence the Krewe name, which translates into “hammered rabbit.” The Krewe has a great time while representing and giving back to Iowa by volunteering their time to St. Jude’s fundraiser and other town events. This year, the Krewe traveled to the Orient!
In Asian culture, the dragon is a symbol of power, strength, and good luck for people who are worthy. Therefore, it is fitting that this year, the King and Queen reigning over the ball were their majesties Dragon King Fred Petticrew and Dragon Queen Lori Petticrew. Both originally from Iowa, Fred and Lori were engaged on Halloween night, have been married for 25 years and have a daughter, Lauren, 17. Fred has worked for Calcasieu Parish School Board for 27 years and Lori has worked for Bolton Ford for 23 years. The Queen enjoys painting and reading. They attend First United Methodist Church in Iowa and enjoy hanging out with family and friends. They hope to travel to Ireland and Scotland one day. They Royal Couple will lead the Krewe in assuring that the ball and season will be safe and fun this year.
The Duke and Duchess of Cherry Blossoms were Ryan and Audra Hill, paying tribute to the beautiful cherry blossom trees and flowers. These flowers represent the beauty in short times, such as our beautiful, short Mardi Gras season. The Duke and Duchess have been married for 14 years and have two children, Madeline and Charles. As a family, they attend Iowa First Baptist Church. Audra, originally from Nashville, Tennessee is a realtor with Moffett, Latter and Blum.
