Krewe Deja Vu du Monde Presents Triple X
Krewe Deja Vu du Monde held their 30th Ball on February 2 at the Lake Charles Civic Center. The theme was “Triple X,” celebrating the Krewe’s 30-year anniversary.
Master of Ceremonies Gayle Marshall presented the 2018 Court of “Tour of Italy en Masque” for their final promenade: King Dan Carlson and Queen Michelle Elliott XXVIV, Duke and Duchess Trinity and Jennifer Cline, and Duchesses Courtney Craft and Danie’l Jernigan.
Queen Deja Vu du Monde was Julie Lynette Babineaux. A Krewe member since 2003, she has served as VP of Operations since 2009, has represented the Krewe on the Board of Mardi Gras SWLA for several years and served as Duchess in 2006. Queen Julie was Krewe Co-Captain from 2009-2017 before passing the tradition on to enjoy a year of “retirement” in preparation for her reign as Queen XXX. Julie attends St. Margaret’s Church and is employed by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury as a Judicial Assistant in the 14th Judicial District Court and is a member of the Louisiana State Paralegal Association. She was joined by her son, USAF Tech Sgt. Justin Chatman and his wife Senita of Cabot, Arkansas. She is the proud Nana of the night’s Honorary Duchess, Lillian. Her Majesty was escorted by Krewe member Christopher LeBlanc.
Captain XXX was Shannon McSwain. Shannon was raised in Beaumont, Texas but has called Sulphur her home for the past 11 years. She graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and a Master’s in Educational Technology Leadership. She has been an educator for over 17 years and is currently employed by the Jeff Davis Parish School Board. Captain Shannon is also a member of Krewe de Charlie Sioux where she serves as board secretary. She has been on the Charlie Sioux Court numerous times and was honored to be Queen Siouxland XVI alongside King Charles XVI, George Jacobson. In her spare time, Shannon enjoys gardening, kayaking, camping and traveling with family and friends.
The Duke Ringmaster was Christopher Martin. A Jennings native, he is the son of Doris and Barry Martin of Elton. He is an honors graduate of McNeese State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. He has been employed with the Jeff Davis Parish School Board for 18 years and currently teaches science at Lake Arthur High School. In his tenure as an educator, he has been selected Teacher of the Year at the school level four times and Jeff Davis Parish Teacher of the Year once. He serves as staffing and camp director for the Southwestern Cheerleaders Association and assistant coach for the MSU Cowboy Cheerleaders. He has been a Krewe member for four years.
Duchess Betsy Ross was Sandra Dee Reese. An Austin native, Duchess Sandra has been married for 34 years and has three wonderful children, Rhiannon, Stephanie and Richard, and a great daughter-in-law, Candace. She is also a mom to two cats, Doodle and Kiki. Sandra is a mortgage analyst/servicing liaison for Visio Lending in Austin. She has a great group of friends, many dating back from high school, that she considers family. They travel and attend concert and charity events together and she can’t imagine her life without their friendship and support. She loves being in the Krewe and cherishes the good times she has shared with members and guests.
The Wonder Woman Duchess was Dorene Gothreaux. A native of Merryville, Dorene has resided in the Lake Area for over 38 years. She and her husband Scott have been married for 31 years. They have three children, Allison, Greg and Shane, six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and their fur-baby, Bentley. The Duchess has been in the banking industry for 37 years and currently holds the position of Chief Operating Officer, Executive VP at JD Bank. She is a member of Christian Life Church of Sulphur, where she has served on the board. She has also been a Rotarian for 10 years, serving Sulphur Sunrise Rotary in several capacities, most recently as 2017/2018 president. She also holds a Paul Harris Fellowship with Rotary International. The Duchess is a founding member of The Mines Theatre in Sulphur, where she has served as president and continues to serve on the board. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling with her husband, reading, entertaining in her home, and acting in Dinner Theatre productions at The Mines Theatre. Dorene has been a Krewe member since 2007.
