Krewe du Sauvage celebrated its 16th annual ball on Saturday, January 26 in the Grand Event Center at Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino. It was a black-tie event where guests enjoyed music by Bag of Donuts and Deep South Productions. Samy Stone provided photography.
The theme for this year’s ball was “Studio 54.” The Royal Court followed this theme by representing fashion, nightlife and everything else that was Studio 54. All Court costumes were designed and constructed by John Chavanne of Lake Charles. Owen Clanton and Ryan Boyd served as Masters of Ceremonies.
The evening began with the emcees welcoming a crowd of over 1,200 people to the biggest party in town. The 2018 “Sauvage in Wonderland” Royal Court was introduced for the final time: King Henri XIV and Queen Sophie XIV, Jimmy Lopez and Julie Sanders; Duke Philippe XIV and Duchess Henriette XIV, Joe and Ashlee Milazzo; Duke Louis XIV and Duchess Antoinette XIV, Kent and Rachel Johnson; Duke Charles XIV and Duchess Elizabeth XIV, Ben and Brooke Hornsby and Duke Pierre XIV and Duchess Anne XIV, Terry and Lynne Burrows.
The 2019 Royal Court presentation began with the introduction of Duke Pierre XV and Duchess Anne XV, Trent and Tasha Dubus of Lake Charles, presented in green and gold costumes representing “Pop Culture.” Trent is the son of Carlos and Faye Dubus of Lake Charles and is a new construction commercial plumber for Lake Area Plumbing. An alumnus of Theta Chi Fraternity, Trent enjoys deer and duck hunting, offshore fishing, cooking and spending time with friends and family. Tasha is the daughter of Barney and the late Rosa Buxton of Lake Charles. A graduate of Stage One Hair School, she is a hair stylist at Salon 420 and the former owner of Salon Evans. Tasha enjoys attending concerts, traveling, shopping, going to classes and hair shows and spending time with friends and family. Tasha and Trent attend St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church and OLQH Catholic Church. They are both members of ACTS and have served on many teams in the Diocese of Lake Charles. Their three children are Bailey, Blake and Grant.
Representing “Disco Nightlife” in purple and turquoise costumes were Duke Charles XV and Duchess Elizabeth XV, Chuck and Kris Self of Moss Bluff. The son of Clyde and Sandra Self of Lafayette, Chuck earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Management from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and an MBA from McNeese State University. He is the administrator at the Children’s Clinic of Southwest Louisiana and is a member of Medical Group Management Association. He enjoys guitar playing, weight lifting and traveling. Kris is the daughter of Thomas and Venita Barton of Moss Bluff. A domestic engineer, she graduated from Sam Houston High School and enjoys playing Mahjongg, working out, gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends. They have three children, Cory, Abigail and Harrison, a daughter-in-law, Scarlett and a grandson, Shane.
Representing “Paparazzi” in silver and black costumes were Duke Louis XV and Duchess Antoinette XV, Graham and Amanda Martin of Lake Charles. Graham is the son of Donny and Fifi Martin of Lake Charles and the owner of Martin Insulation and Coatings. He is a member of Rum Passport Club at Palace Café, Immaculate Conception Cathedral Knights of Columbus, ACTS and Louisiana State Spray Foam Insulation Board. Graham enjoys playing ping pong, snow-skiing, working out, drinking rum and wine and traveling. The daughter of Luke and Debbie Papania, Amanda is a stay-at-home mom and a member of Immaculate Conception Cathedral Catholic Daughters, Altar Society, and ACTS. She enjoys traveling, reading and gardening. The Duke and Duchess have two children, Jonathan and Abigail, and two dogs, Smokey and Bandit.
Representing “Street Fashion” in red, black and silver costumes were Duke Philippe XV and Duchess Henriette XV, Joe and Wendy Kennison of Moss Bluff. Joe is the son of Dick and Fran Kennison of Sulphur. A graduate of McNeese State University with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing, he is the president and chief operating officer for Kennison Forest Products, Inc. Joe is a member of Scaffold & Access Industry Association and enjoys fishing, hunting and traveling. Wendy is the daughter of Jim and Barbara Butler of Moss Bluff and Roger and Geri Wright of New Orleans. A graduate of the Louisiana Institute of Massage Therapy, she is a massage therapist, owner of Simply Retreat and is member of the Louisiana Board of Massage Therapists. Wendy is an adventure junkie and enjoys traveling, boating, volunteering and spending time with family and friends. Joe and Wendy have two children, Alec and Katie.
Reigning over “Studio 54” were King Henri XV and Queen Sophie XV, Jared and Sarah Beth Kennison of Lake Charles. Jared is the son of Dick and Fran Kennison of Sulphur. Jared is a graduate of McNeese State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Communications and Public Relations with a Minor in Marketing. He is the VP/GM of Kennison Forest Products Inc. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Order (KA) Alumni Association and president of KA Housing Corp., as well as a member of SWLA Chamber and several industry associations. King Jared enjoys traveling, fishing, boating, church activities and spending times with friends and family. Sarah Beth, the daughter of Doug and Terry Hebert of Kinder, is a graduate of the Vidal Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica, CA and Stage One Hair School. She is a Master Stylist and the owner of Bauhaus Salon and Haus Spa, as well as an analyst for Master Peace Consulting Group. Queen Sarah Beth is an alumnus of Phi Mu Fraternity, a member of SWLA Chamber and Our Lady Queen of Heaven Family Choir. She is also a member of the award-winning Krewe du Sauvage-Professional Seafood Gumbo Cook-off Team. Sarah enjoys cooking, drinking wine while listening to music and spending time with friends and family. The Royal Couple are owners of J&S Kennison, LLC, active members of OLQH Catholic Church, supporters of OLQH Catholic School and Charter Members of Krewe du Sauvage. They have two children, Samuel and Lucy Beth.
Krewe du Sauvage was founded in 2003 by Ashlee LeLeaux Milazzo of Katy, Texas. She is the daughter of E. Stephen LeLeaux and Donna Richey Ortego, both of Lake Charles. Ashlee is married to Joe Milazzo and has one daughter, Campbell Elisabeth Lemons. A graduate of McNeese State University with a degree in Accounting. Ashlee is a member of the McNeese Alumni Association and Phi Mu Fraternity Alumnae Association. A board member of Krewe du Sauvage, Ashlee has served as Captain and holds the honor of reigning as Queen Sophie I and Duchess Henriette XIV.
Gena Richard Millslagle of Iowa serves as Captain. The daughter of Ivan and Linda Richard of Iowa, Gena has a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from McNeese State University and Master of Science in Nursing-Nursing Education from The University of Texas at Tyler. She is a clinical assistant professor in the College of Nursing at McNeese State University and is also a health care consultant with The Greeley Company. Gena is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International-Honor Society of Nursing, McNeese Alumni Association and Phi Mu Fraternity Alumnae Association. She serves as a Youth Group Leader at First United Methodist Church Iowa. Gena has served as President of the Krewe and holds the honor of reigning as Queen Sophie VIII with her late husband, Erik Edward Millslagle, as King Henri VIII. She has two sons, Luke Patrick and Jack Henry.
